Valley Crossing Students Win STEM Challenge

Valley Crossing Students Win STEM Challenge

Two groups of Valley Crossing Elementary School (VCES) students were awarded first and second place respectively at the elementary Minnesota Zoo’s ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge. The STEM design challenge asked students to apply math and science knowledge, creativity and critical thinking to create an enrichment solution for the Minnesota Zoo’s red panda to help keep the creatures busy and engaged.

In first place were VCES students Grace Zhang, Rachel Doran, Ali Jorgenson and Keira Jorgenson with a multi-wreath project.

In second place were VCES students Alaina Vogt, Sophia Sutherland and Amelia Arnold with their graper paper design.

Of the 1,300 enrichment design solutions for all grade levels, only 36 elementary groups were selected to present their concepts at the ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge. Student award winners received household memberships and complimentary passes to the Minnesota Zoo. Congratulations to our young student engineers.
